EAST BRUNSWICK - ELAINE JUDITH (CROWN) FRIEDMAN died on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at her home.
Born in Philadelphia, PA she resided in East Brunswick for over 25 years.
A New Jersey Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Elaine received a Bachelor's Degree at Rowan University, Glassboro, and went on to receive her Master's Degree from Rutgers University, New Brunswick. At Rutgers, she received an award for her work with children from the University Institute of Alcohol and Drug Studies.
She also received certifications as a New Jersey School Social Worker, A New Jersey Substance Awareness Coordinator (Kean University, Union), and held a certificate in adoption from the Rutgers Institute for Families.
Elaine served as a Mayor's Representative to the East Brunswick Municipal Alliance since 2002, was on the Mayor's School Age Child Care Committee and was a part of Middlesex County Coalition for Healthy Communities since 2005.
Prior to retiring in 2014, she was a Clinical Social Worker for the Middlesex County Vocational & Technical High School, East Brunswick for 25 years, worked for the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services, Family Service Agency of Princeton, Total Family Solutions and a myriad of other altruistic-focused employment since 1974.
Elaine was a Congregant of B'nai Tikvah, North Brunswick.
She was predeceased by her husband, Howard Paul Friedman, in May 2014.
Surviving are her extremely loving companion, Steve Chernela, and her two daughters, Lauren Nicole Friedman-Dworkin and her husband, Jared, and Michele Erica Friedman.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2019, at 11:45 am, at MOUNT SINAI MEMORIAL CHAPELS, 454 Cranbury Road at Evergreen Boulevard, East Brunswick, with a burial to follow at Washington Cemetery, South Brunswick. For directions, please visit the "Services" page.

I was shocked and very saddened to hear about your mom. I spoke to her not long ago. She was a kind and caring person with a big heart. She will be missed.
