Maxine Paley (nee Schlesinger), 80, of Lakewood, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2019. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Maxine moved to New Jersey in 1963. She lived in Kendall Park, Tinton Falls, and finally retired to Lakewood in 1998. Maxine was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ronald. She is survived by her daughters, Robin (Michael) Weinstein and Nancy Paley, both of Mount Laurel, her son, Jeff (Susan) Paley, of Howell, New Jersey, her 7 grandchildren - Aliyah, Spencer, Arin, Jaden, Tyler, Clay, and Charlotte, and her sister, Hon. Alice Schlesinger (Thomas) Nooter, of New York City.
Maxine graduated from Erasmus High School at 16, and Brooklyn College at 19. She later earned her Master's Degree at Trenton State College. After being a homemaker when her children were young, Maxine became a business owner in 1976, first with Mr. Quick Printshop in Highland Park, then with Maaco Auto Painting and Bodyworks in Tinton Falls.
Maxine enjoyed reading, travelling, organizing events, and spending time with family and friends. She was a one-day champion on the original Jeopardy, appeared in their 10th anniversary competition, and then competed again in 1987. She was an avid sports fan, a fierce card player, and an active member of her communities, organizing and hosting a variety of social and fundraising events. She was a two-time breast cancer survivor.
A chapel service will be held on Sunday, March 3rd, 10:15 AM, at MOUNT SINAI MEMORIAL CHAPELS, 454 Cranbury Road at Evergreen Boulevard, East Brunswick. Interment will follow at Washington Cemetery, South Brunswick. For directions, please see our "Services" page.
