MONROE TOWNSHIP - SOL SHERMAN died on Friday, October 9, 2020, at Monroe Village. He was 99.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, he lived the bulk of his adult life in Queens, NY before moving to Monroe Township in 1986. He was very active during his retired years in Concordia: an avid tennis player; a member of the Concordia Players theater group, a founder of the local Knights of Pythias Lodge, and an active fundraiser for many organizations, most notably the Deborah Hospital.

Prior to retiring in 1986, Sol was the owner of several retail stores in New York City, most recently Dodd's Men's Shop for more than twenty years.

Sol was always the life of the party, quick to laugh and causing those around him to laugh as well. He was committed to his wife, his family and friends. Always generous with his time, he showed up whenever someone was in need. He touched so many people during the course of his life and will be fondly remembered by all.

He was a congregant of Congregation Beit Shalom of Monroe Township.

He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 73 years, Rhoda (Kaplan) Sherman, in 2018.

Surviving are his two sons, Norman and his wife, Shelly Petnov-Sherman, of Manhattan, NY, and Stuart and his wife, Leslie of Zionsville, IN, and three grandsons, Michael, Matthew and Benjamin.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 1:00 PM at King Solomon Memorial Park, Clifton under the direction of MOUNT SINAI MEMORIAL CHAPELS, East Brunswick. For directions to the cemetery please see the "Services" page. To leave a message of condolences, please see the "Tributes" page.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Deborah Hospital Foundation at www.deborahfoundation.org

Sol is truly someone of blessed memory. He was warm and welcoming to everyone and we will miss his smile and his Hebrew literacy.

Village Point will miss Sols smile and laughter. It was our pleasure to have the opportunity to be his other family. With deepest sympathy from Village Point to Sols boys and their families. May he be singing and dancing with Rhoda looking down on us.
