I was so sad to learn of Melvin passing. He was kind, generous and friendly - there is no greater measure of a person than this.
I was hospitalized in Newark for two months before my heart transplant in August 2018. Melvin was a dedicated Hearty Heart, making the rounds to see me and others, his gently reassuring manner helping to calm my anxieties. When he learned I lived on Cape Cod, he told me of his annual fishing trips to Wellfleet and we made plans to get together when he was there. Alas, he didn’t make the trip in 2019 or 2020, so we never met up.
But he called me at times just to see how I was doing. Once he called on Mother’s Day. He said he didn’t know if I had children, but he didn’t want to leave me off his list just in case. He was that kind of man. I will miss him.
Our wonderful neighbor....we will miss you. It's been a blessing to have lived across from you for the past 27 years. We will miss your smile as you walk across the street, the knock on the door, and your phone calls to Mike. We will always remember, "The Melvinator". Rest peacefully. Love, Mike, Jill, Mike, and Dan
