EAST BRUNSWICK - MORRIS "Moe" ROCKAWAY passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Sunrise Assisted Living in East Brunswick. He was 98 years old.
Born in Newark, he resided in Livingston and West Orange before moving to East Brunswick 38 years ago. Moe married Sadie, the love of his life on October 1, 1949 and spent 63 years together traveling and enjoying family and friends.
He started out as the owner of ABC Floor Wax between 1950 and 1975 where he served the Essex County Community. Moe then went on to hold several management positions at Hackensack Hospital, Saint Elizabeth Hospital and Meadowlands Hospital from 1975 to 1990. He spent the last 27 years of his career at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in his most recent position as a Patient Representative.
He was an U.S. Army Veteran having served from 1942-1946 in North Africa and Southeast Asia in the 1877th Engineer Battalion. He received a European African Middle Eastern Ribbon, ASIATCI Pacific Theater Ribbon, a Good Conduct medal and a Victory Medal.
Morris held a number of officer positions including the President's spot at the West Orange Lions Club and was the President of the National Housekeepers Association for many years. He was inducted into the ASA Softball Hall of Fame for his 50 plus years of umpiring.
Moe started dancing at age 15 and never stopped. He enjoyed watching sports, listening to music, going out for dinner and spending time with his family. Moe also completed the NY Marathon in 1997 at the of age 75 in 6.7 hours, which he was most proud of.
He was predeceased by his wife, Sadie, in 2015, his brothers, Harry and Jack and his sisters, Blanch, Sylvia and Annette.
Surviving are his son, Sam Rockaway, and his wife, Darlene, of East Brunswick and his three loving grandchildren, Ethan, Morgan and Paige.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 25th, at 10:15 AM, in MOUNT SINAI MEMOIAL CHAPELS, 454 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick. Interment will follow at Beth David Memorial Park, Kenilworth.
