Inevitably, all of us are going to pass on at some unknown future date. You can give your family a loving gift by discussing and prearranging your final services now. Here at Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, we’re frequently asked if it’s necessary to prepay in order to prearrange, and while there are many benefits to prepaying, the answer is NO, you don’t have to prepay to prearrange. Prearranging your final service is a caring and thoughtful gift your family will appreciate when the time comes.
Whether you pay in advance or not, it’s still good to have those arrangements in place. Your family doesn’t have to wonder what you might have wanted and try to guess what they should do for your services. They know for a fact what you want because you’ve laid it all out for them. All they have to do is contact our Jewish funeral home and since we have all your information and wishes recorded we’ll be able to immediately implement your plans.
If you don’t have the funds to pay in advance, that’s perfectly fine. It’s still an advantage to preplan your services because of all the decisions that are involved, and your wishes and instructions are recorded, making it easier for your family. You’ll also have an idea of what current costs are so you can consider if prepayment at some point would make sense for you.
However, if you do want to pay for your prearrangements, keep in mind that when you pre-pay, you’re paying today’s costs. Keeping in mind that charges go up virtually every year, at Mount Sinai, when you fully prepay our funeral home charges, you are covered by the MSMC prepayment guarantee in which we guarantee to provide the goods and services selected at any time in the future for the value of the funding instrument. While we cannot guarantee outside third party charges such as cemetery, newspaper and similar charges, you can set aside the estimated charges now so only any changes to those charges would be due at the time of need. Call us to get full details on our prepayment guarantee.
Is your money safe? Yes! New Jersey has the strictest consumer protection laws in the US as regards funeral prepayments. 100% of any money prepaid must, by law, go in to a specially designed trust and the funeral home cannot access the funds until after the person passes. The trust is also fully revocable and refundable so you’re free to change your mind at any time (unless it was prefunded for Medicaid purposes, in which case it must be Irrevocable, meaning it can only be used for that person’s funeral). We’d be happy to fully explain the benefits and how CHOICES, the New Jersey Prepaid Trust Fund works.
When you pre-plan your own final services, you have plenty of options to consider. Not only do you get to choose the type of service and other specifics, but you get to decide whether or not prepayment is right for you.
